Guatemala!!!!!!! (in no particular order)

New friends in Tapachula (Mexico-Guatemala border)

Best host mom ever.

Learning Spanish in Xela.

The best ruins ever.

Exploring the cave that the women and children hid in when the conquistadors came. Forgot our flashlight :-(

Shrine to San Simon (saint of drinking and smoking and other lovely things) in Zunil, outside Xela.

In Xela:
Neighbors organized against delinquency.
Delinquents organized against the neighborhood. The best comedor ever in San Juan Atitlan!!! This meal cost about $1.

Tiny town in the highlands after a billion hours of hiking.
Best view in Guatemala...almost to Todos Santos.

Finally, we made it to Todos Santos! Check out the pants.

Oaxaca Street Art and Graffiti (part 1)

Sorry it took so long to get this up. More farm pictures to come, but first we wanted to showcase some of our favorite Oaxacan graffiti. This is part 1 of a several part series, get pumped.
- Lauren

APPO territory.

"Woman is synonomous with resistence."

This is a shirt, not grafitti, but I like it. "No god, no love, no husband, no (political) party."

FRIDA! Someone drew in a gun. Badass.

Cameron likes this street. Our neighbor Val lives on it.

"Not even a peso from the people to political parties. Annul your vote!"

"Rebellion is life, submission is death." - Ricardo Flores Magon. "Get out, Ulises!!"
(The "RIP" is reordered letters from the symbol of the political party "PRI.")

My favorite!!! "Resistance is a feminine word." (Nouns have gender in Spanish - resistencia is feminine.)

The bottles of medicine have the symbols from each of the political parties on them. "jejeje" is evil laughter.

Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca

Signs for the Mega March wheatpasted all over Oaxaca.

One of the leading APPO speakers!
Tons of folks, campesinos...

Books for revolution...

APPO's cute little symbol...

Huge banners everywhere!

Pre-school teacher from Section 22 Teacher's Union.

Carlos Marx, Frederick Engles, V.I. Lenin, Jose Stalin

The masses.

Unity.

These pictures are from the APPO "Mega March" marking the 3rd anniversary of the 2006 protests/teacher's strike.

Life on the Farm

Dan and the solar oven.

Reading with Linda the cat.

When the tortilla gets stale, make tortilla chips!

They were so tasty!!
The New Socialist Woman.

This is the salad I made with greens from Val (neighbor)'s farm and tasty tasty brocolli and other good stuff from our farm. Did you know you can eat the flowers of broccoli? They are super tasty.

We made tasty dinner.

A view of the farm from the open-air bathroom. If you look closely you can see Cameron planting black-eyed peas.
